DISTRIBUTIONS MADE TO BABIL PROVINCE FOR COMMUNITY PROJECTS

Hilla, Babil Province, Iraq. During April, the Coalition Provisional Authority awarded more than $345,300 in contracts for community projects in Babil Province. The projects are now employing local Iraqis from Babil Province.

Iraqis are using the funds to refurbish health clinics and clean up roads in Hilla. The money also pays for sewage projects in Hilla, road upgrades in Al-Jaryan, and a footbridge in Shomalie.

CPA believes a good educational system is essential as Iraq progresses toward self-government. The money is being used to repair the Reno Al-Jouahri School in Hilla, and it provides sports equipment for schools in the area. Repairing and improving schools creates a better learning environment for children and increases opportunities for their futures as they learn in a free Iraq.

The local Iraqi contractors were chosen from a competitive bidding process. All the money is given in increments, and as the work is properly completed, more money will be given to the Iraqi contractors. Seized from the former regime assets, the money is now being used for the Iraqi people.

The above examples show Iraqis determined to work on improving their communities as they move toward a sovereign country. We will continue to support the Iraqi people as they become a self-governing and democratic nation.
